I am so excited to have the opportunity to travel to Peru in July 2024 with INGAGE Unlimited!
Peru is a fairly young country, with more than half of the population under the age of 15. They are a democratic society, but only since 1980. They are typically strong willed, friendly, hospitable people who want to make foreigners feel welcome.
Peru has a challenge to improve educational quality. By age ten, only 44% of the population can adequately read or understand simple text. Socioeconomic status largely defines what kind of educational experience students will have. While in Peru, we will be working with the educators and community leaders in three communities in the Andes Mountains who rarely, if ever, receive professional development opportunities. We also hope to go on home visits and learn about the challenges families face on a daily basis.
Over the next several months my INGAGE Unlimited team and I will begin to create professional development workshops to help meet the academic and social/emotional needs expressed by the teachers and leaders in each of these communities. As a result of this trip, we are able to pass on skills and information that can continue to be utilized and passed to others in education despite the lack of resources.
