I am headed to Guatemala in July of 2020. We will be providing professional development training for local educators in Guatemala City in a garbage dump community and the rural areas of San Marcos or Chiquimula, Guatemala. In Guatemala, teachers have little to no access to formal training and resources. We hope to provide some foundation, simple tips and instruction to the teachers to help them grow their expertise, build confidence, and expand their teaching abilities to help going forward in their own communities. Over my past trips, I have found those who attend our workshops enthusiastic and open to learning as well as open to sharing their expertise with us. A friendly smile with an open heart goes a long way to building a relationship, despite language barriers, in an extremely short time. I am excited return to Guatemala and continue to grow my experiences. I have taken previous trips to Guatemala, Peru and Honduras for professional development and found it to an unforgettable experience.
